I started computing with an Amiga 500 back around 1987. It wasn’t long before I realized I would need a program that would do a better job of letting me work with all those directories, documents, images and all the other various files that need to be organized and shuffled about. I found a great program called Directory Opus, and used it for as long as I used my trusty Amigas.
When I first started working with PC’s and DOS, I was appalled. “How do you guys work with your files!?” I remember asking. Laughable programs like Norton Commander and GoldTree something-or-other couldn’t hold a candle to Dopus, and even when we started working in Windows things were bleak. Then low and behold, the makers of Directory Opus released it for the PC, and life was good again.
I’ve probably been using it ever since I first discovered it. Every once in a while a new directory utility comes out, and I’ll give them a try (since I’m a utility freak) but they just don’t have the configurability that I’ve come to rely on. Everything in Directory Opus can be configured to the way you want to work…the menus, the toolbars, the buttons, the colors, you name it.
In my view it’s the most powerful and customizable directory utility out there, but don’t take my word for it…check out the demo and see for yourself.
